Emblems

With all three artists working across painting and sculpture, Emblems considers the experience of meaning and memory through objects. Gesturing towards art historical archetypes of still life and tableau, these works bring together ideas of domesticity, ephemerality, and theatricality. Spaces of the domestic are woven into symbolic sites of imagination.

I left a postcard you wrote me somewhere in the apartment I moved out of.
it spoke of mundane days to remind me that time continues to pass when we’re apart.
I forget that often.
anything to preserve the seconds into keepsakes, drying the flowers.
I’ll pass those down to my kin, or the new tenants will speculate;
were they lovers?

Autumn comes once again to humble the trees.
we sleep and wake and sleep and wake again in a different mood.
we carve our initials in the wood.
I wear fabric that someone eighty years ago received great news in.
the luck still rubs off.

last night I dreamt I was on stage and you were in the wings.
your look reminded me that time continues to pass whether I’m watched or not.
I forget that often.
I write this down in an attempt to preserve its significance
but in the morning it’s only symbols to speculate about;
was that how she felt?
